How to Use
⚠️ DO NOT use Cast Off and Grease Gone together,or on the same surface in the same session. Rinse thoroughly between products. Allow surfaces to fully dry before applying a different Mad Soaps product. ⚠️
- Gear up. Wear protective gloves, eye protection, and clothing you don't care about. Cast Off will bleach fabrics on contact.
- Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Cast Off releases chlorine vapors during use.
- Surface must be cool and shaded. Heat accelerates off-gassing and shortens product life on the surface.
- Pre-wet surrounding metals and unprotected surfaces to dilute any drip-off.
- Spray Cast Off directly onto the stained surface. Coat evenly.
- Dwell 1–5 minutes. Stubborn stains may need longer — but watch for the stain to lift, then rinse.
- Agitate gently with a soft brush if needed. Never use stiff bristles on gelcoat or vinyl.
- Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Flood-rinse the entire treated area and any nearby surfaces.
- Repeat for heavy staining. Multiple short applications outperform one long dwell.
- Reapply protection. Cast Off strips wax, sealants, and surface protectants.
Ready-to-use formula. No dilution required.
🚨 NEVER MIX WITH:
Mixing Cast Off with the following produces toxic chlorine or chloramine gas:
- Acidic cleaners — vinegar, citric acid, lime/scale removers, rust removers, hull cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners
- Ammonia-based cleaners — many glass and surface cleaners contain ammonia
- Other Mad Soaps products — until you confirm compatibility
- Pool chemicals
- Any "natural" or unlabeled cleaning product of unknown chemistry
If you smell a sharp, sour, or chlorine-like odor more intense than the product itself — stop, ventilate, leave the area, and rinse the surface with large amounts of fresh water.
✅ Safe to Use On
- White gelcoat (the primary use case)
- White or light-colored fiberglass hulls
- White vinyl boat upholstery (test first — colored vinyl may bleach)
- White canvas covers and bimini tops (test first)
- White awnings
- Concrete pads and dock surfaces (may lighten colored concrete)
- White tile and grout
- Porcelain
- Glass (rinse promptly)
- White or light plastic boat trim
❌ Do NOT Use On
Sodium hypochlorite bleaches colors and reacts with metals. Avoid:
- Any colored fabric, upholstery, or canvas — will bleach permanently
- Aluminum (any grade — reacts and pits)
- Stainless steel (extended exposure causes pitting and corrosion)
- Brass, bronze, and copper fittings (corrodes and tarnishes)
- Galvanized metal (strips zinc coating)
- Anodized aluminum (strips anodizing)
- Zinc anodes (degrades)
- Carbon steel (corrodes rapidly)
- Polished metals (will dull and pit)
- Dark Colored marble, granite, and natural stone (etches the surface)
- Wood, teak, or wood veneer (bleaches and dries)
- Leather upholstery (causes permanent damage)
- Vinyl wraps, decals, and graphics (fades colors)
- Dark carpet (removes color)
- Tinted windows (damages tint film)
- Acrylic and polycarbonate (clouds and degrades)
- Rubber gaskets and seals (degrades over time)
- Carbon fiber components
- Painted brightwork or decorative finishes
Rule of thumb: If color matters or it's metal, mask it, move it, or skip it. If in doubt, test in an inconspicuous area first.
Pro Tips from the Field
- Spot test, every time. On colored canvas, painted gelcoat, or any non-white surface — apply a small amount in an inconspicuous spot, wait 5 minutes, rinse, and inspect before treating the full area.
- Mask off zinc anodes and metal fittings with tape and plastic sheeting before working on hulls.
- Pre-wet surrounding metals so any overspray or drip is diluted immediately.
- Work top-down on vertical surfaces so any runoff goes onto areas you're about to treat anyway.
- Multiple short applications beat one long dwell. Apply, dwell 2 minutes, rinse, then reapply if needed.
- For deep mildew staining in vinyl, agitate gently with a soft detail brush.
- For hull waterline stains, dwell 1–3 minutes and rinse before the bleach has time to attack any underlying metals (rub rails, through-hulls, anodes).
- For canvas, lay flat in shade, soak the stained area, keep moist for 2–3 minutes, then flood-rinse with a garden hose.
- Never let Cast Off dry on a surface. If it dries before rinsing, the bleached effect can become permanent.
- Rinse with fresh water, not seawater. Saltwater leaves deposits.
- Work in shade, in cool conditions. Heat accelerates chlorine off-gassing — you'll smell more and breathe more.
- Ventilate. Open hatches, port lights, and doors when working in interior spaces. Use a fan if needed.
- Reapply protectant to anything you cleaned - vinyl protectant, wax, sealant, fabric water repellent. Grab a bottle of Boost Coat at checkout.
- Storage matters: Keep Cast Off cool and out of sunlight. Heat and UV degrade sodium hypochlorite — store above 40°F and below 90°F, and use within 12 months of opening.
Safety & First Aid
Cast Off contains sodium hypochlorite (12–14%). It is corrosive and produces chlorine vapors.
Always wear:
- Chemical-resistant gloves (rubber, nitrile, or neoprene)
- Sealed eye protection or full face shield
- Old clothing — Cast Off will bleach fabric on contact
- Closed-toe shoes
Work in well-ventilated areas. Use respiratory protection (NIOSH-approved mask) when working in enclosed spaces.
If exposed:
- Eyes: Flush immediately with running water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. See a physician immediately.
- Skin: Flush with water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing. See a physician if irritation persists.
- Inhaled: Remove person to fresh air. Keep comfortable for breathing. See a physician if symptoms develop.
- Swallowed: Dilute stomach contents with water if conscious. Do NOT induce vomiting. Call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) and see a physician immediately.
If chlorine gas exposure occurs (from accidental mixing): Evacuate the area immediately. Get to fresh air. Call 911 if breathing is affected. Do not re-enter the area until ventilated.

Storage & Disposal
- Store in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place between 40°F and 90°F.
- Do not allow to freeze (freeze point: 32°F).
- Do not store in direct sunlight — UV degrades sodium hypochlorite rapidly.
- Keep container tightly closed. Store locked up, away from children and pets.
- Store away from acids, ammonia, and other cleaning products.
- Do not pour down drains, into storm drains, or into waterways. Harmful to fish and aquatic organisms.
- Dispose of contents and container in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- For empty containers: rinse thoroughly with water before disposal or recycling.
